10.3: Create desktop printers after upgrade install System
Saw a blurb on the Macworld Panther Tips and Tricks website:
When you use OS X 10.3's Printer Setup utility--formerly Print Center--to add a new printer, you create a tiny application for that printer in your user folder's Library: Printers folder. You can make aliases of as many printers as you like and place them on your desktop, or just drag them into the Dock.
But what if you upgraded and already have printers set up?. I didn't find anything in my Library folder as mentioned above. What I did find out is that you can drag the little printer icon directly from the Printer Setup utility to your desktop! Pretty cool!

And, perhaps even cooler:

Once you have your printer created, you can put it in the Finder window sidebar! Navigate to your home directory, then to ~/Library/Printers/

Drag the desired printer into your sidebar, and now you can easily print a document by simply dragging it from the finder window to the printer in the sidebar!

Drag and drop a document onto the printer icon works fine, except for some reason I couldnt get it to recognise let alone print an alias.

There's already an item in one of the menus of the Print utility to put a printer icon on your desktop.

Just getting there isn 't half the fun!

I just discovered that you can also create a desktop printer (which actually appears to be an alias due to the little arrow on the icon) with the Printer Setup Utility by simply dragging any of the printers in the Printer List to the desktop. Easy-peasy.
