iTunes buffer size versus speed of connection Apps
Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but I thought since I had a cable modem that I should pick "Large buffer size" for the streaming buffer size. Instead iTunes Help recommends the small size for fast connections and the large for slow (dial-up) connections:
If you have a fast Internet connection (DSL or cable modem), you can have the music that's streamed to your computer (Music Store previews, radio stations, shared music libraries) begin playing more quickly by choosing the Small streaming buffer size in the Advanced pane of iTunes Preferences. If you have a slower Internet connection (modem), you can choose the Large buffer size for smoother streaming playback.
I tried it, and it does seem to make a difference (no more streaming popup boxes).

iTunes buffer size versus speed of connection

Yeah the buffer setting is USELESS. I hate that I only have three options...I sure wish I could set a specific amount of data/time for iTunes to buffer before playing. I have never been able to use iTunes to stream consistently on any setting with any broadband service...from my work's fast DSL line to my home cable modem. I would be willing to wait 30 seconds for a stream to start if it meant I would never have to rebuffer midstream. Anyone know of a way to set the buffer size manually?

If you're wanting to buffer entire previews from the ITMS, just go into preferences and select Store--Load complete preview before playing.
