Qualify your G5 System for Panther upgrade purchase Install
I was very confused when using Apple's online tool to qualify my G5 for the Panther $19.95 up-to-date program. I entered my serial number correctly, but the trick is the "place of purchase" box. I tried "Apple Store," but it didn't work. You have to use "store.apple.com" insteaed.

I have no idea why they just can't go by the serial number, but for whatever reason, you have to have all info correct. I had to look at my order status to get the exact order date. I also had to put my billing state and city for it to work.

[robg adds: I had a bit of trouble with this form, too. I don't think I ever got the ship date correct, and I just used "Apple online" as the place of purchase. I'm not sure what the magical combination is, but after a few tries, mine took ... and according to FedEx, my Panther arrives tomorrow, one day early!]

Overnight Express
Authored by: Felix on Oct 22, '03 02:44:01PM

I started getting a bit concerned about not getting Panther on Friday since I hadn't received an e-mail notice that my copy had shipped. So I took a look at my Order Status page. Earlier in the week the Shipping Method had been listed as "Ground Service" but today it's being listed as "Overnight Express." So I guess I can now expect to see it start moving on Thursday.

New PBG4-17 and online qualification form
Authored by: victory on Oct 22, '03 11:23:37PM
Like many others, I ran into problems with Apple's online system qualifier for the Panther Up-to-Date program -- whatever reason, the system refused to take my serial number for a new 17" PowerBook. Finally, I just called the number listed on the page (1-800-335-9258) and explained what was happening

The person I spoke to asked if I had already registered the PowerBook (I had), then asked for the serial number. Apparently, her system was rejecting the number as well and she suggested printing out the PDF form on the update site, filling it out and faxing it back with my invoice for them to research. When I called the next day to follow up, everything was OK and I was given a confirmation number for my upgrade.

I guess the succinct version of this comment would be to simply pick up the phone and call Apple if you're having problems with their online qualification form.
