Stop Quicktime from displaying recently played items list

Does Quicktime annoy you by saving your recently played movies under its File -> Open Recent menu? If so, switch to the Terminal and type:
% cd ~/Library/Preferences
% chmod 444 QuickTimeFavorites
This will make the file read only, so QuickTime cannot write to it.
[robg adds: In testing this hint, I first tried setting the General system preferences to show "0" recent documents, but it has no impact on QuickTime Player. You could also make this change in the Finder by selecting the file, choosing File -> Get Info, and clicking the "Locked" button.]
