10.3: Use Exposť to move hidden files into hidden windows System
For those among us who like slick control movements, and own both Panther and a multi-button mouse, there is a neat trick for moving files from one window to another that Exposť allows for that may not be advious to new users.

Lets say you want to get a file from your desktop and put it into a window and you can't see either. Press and release the desktop reveal key (F11 by default) and then grab whatever file you want off the desktop. While still holding the drag mouse button down, press the Exposť button (F9 by default). Move your file over the window you want to drop it in, and press the Exposť button again. You can now release the drag button and place the file where you wanted it. Pretty slick.

[robg adds: Exposť is clearly one of the most interesting new GUI features to come along in a long time. In testing, I loaded up a screen with something like 50 windows of various sizes, and Exposť still had not trouble at all sizing and positioning them all for easy visibility. Pretty amazing when you start thinking about the math going on in the background. As this hint points out, you can use Exposť as a giant clipboard of sorts, if you consider your desktop as a virtual clipboard.]

Erm, if you drag the file over an Exposť window and wait, it will flash and activate without pressing any keys. Likewise, pressing Space while mousing over (or dragging over) a window activates it immediately without having to press the Exposť key.

Also worthy of note is that the modifier keys are 'uncoupled'. This means that you can toggle the exposť features by say using left shift key if you never use it, or the right command key, etc. Problem is that I've noticed that I tend to use all the keys at various parts of a session, so I haven't yet figured out how to do this without accidentallying exposing exposť at an unwanted moment.

Wow, that's new in 7B85 (or 7B74 - it wasn't in 7B68).

And by that, I mean the modifier keys doing Exposť.

Hint for anybody with a laptop noticing that the right-side modifiers aren't working - it looks like the laptops send the right-side modifiers as left-side modifiers, so the shifts are the same, etc.

Also interesting is that you can set Exposť to be, say, option-right click, or control-right click. Very cool.

I first grabbed a file from one finder window, pressed F-9, hovered over the new finder window I wanted, pressed F-9 again, and then dropped the file into the new finder window.

On my system this moved the file into the new finder window.

Is this what the tip is trying to achieve?

Thanks.
