Use an Aircard 555 with OS X System
I've been using a Sierra Wireless Aircard 555 for several years on Verizon's Express Network (claimed speed up to 150kb/s). But it only worked on Windows laptops. Emailing Sierra Wireless for OS X support was an exercise in futility, and I've been constantly searching the web for a solution.

This morning I finally found one! I discovered an Aircard page on Alex C. Snoeren's site which documents the process! Following the posted instructions worked prefectly for me...

I'm not affiliated with this site, but thought I'd share the knowledge.

150kb/s ?? i'll assume you mean 150 kilobits/s, which is about the speed of ISDN. What's the monthly fee for this service? Also how much are the cards?

Verizon Unlimited Data service starts in the $79-99 per month range (with a calling plan). PDA Unlimited plans (like for the Kyocera 7135 Smartphone are about $49 for unlimited service. Go to Verizon Wireless for more info.

I wasn't able to compile this successfully -- and I held so much hope! Basically, after I compile the extension, each time I try to kextload it, I get the "Fix or Use" prompt. Regardless of what I choose, the terminal reports that the load was aborted. Anyone have any suggestions, or better yet, a compiled working extension to share??

We're preparing an Aircard 555 data-only driver for OSX 10.2 for release and frantically working to get the legalities worked out. This driver has a full installer so you don't have to hack your system to make it work. Everything we've seen so far is very exciting.

In addition, our team is working to get as many of the features of this amazing card working as possible....including authentication, which for this first release will require a Windows PC.

Stay tuned.... I'll post more info next week.

I just sprang for the $30 for StetchedOutSoftware's driver, purchased my AirCard 555 over the Internet for about one-half Verizon's price, borrowed a friend's laptop PC, initialized the card, stuck it in my PB G4, and it works flawlessly. For me it's a godsend, as I have to be connected to the Internet all the time for my businss.

Hope that helps.

FWIW, 10.3.5 includes drivers for the Sierra cards, including the card used with Verizon's BroadbandAccess service.

And a Motorloa v120e

I posted some info about getting it working with a Motorola v.120e on Verizon as well. Also it is worth noting the original page linked to (Alex's) page has the binary drivers for free so it's no longer necessary at all to pay for somebody else to compile them.
