A solution for Safari crashes on pages using Flash
Jul 17, '03 09:08:00AM • Contributed by: somynona
I had a problem where Safari 1.0 v85 was crashing every time I visited a page with Flash graphics on it. For some strange reason, deleting the com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist file from my user's Library -> Preferences folder fixed the problem.

That's not that strange for me... I remember you that QuickTime is able to handle Flash content as well...

It's not too strange of a solution. Corrupt preference files have been a crash-causing factor forever on the Mac. It's no different on OS X.
And QuickTime has built-in Flash display ability...and so is probably what was being used to try and display the Flash content you were attempting to view. Deleting corrupt preference file fixed the problem (as it often does).

QuickTime does seem prone to preference file problems. Occasionally it'll refuse to start up when I want it to play a music file, so I've already had quite a bit of practice in deleting its preference file...

No prob with Flash...But I can't go to ANY website and enter text into a search field without Safari crashing. I've blown away a BUNCH of old pref files, but to no avail. I've blown the app away, reinstalled, and still, same prob. Go to ebay, enter a couple of keystrokes in the search field, and crash. Go to my credit union's website, start to enter my acct. no....crash. Thoughts?

I had a similar problem with Acrobat. Worked fine in Classic, but crashed immediately upon launching in two accounts on my machine. Interestingly, it worked just fine a third account on the same machine. The problem was a corrupted ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist file.

I have the exact same issue. On apple.com I can enter text without a crash but anywhere else it will crash. If I get it to work I'll post my soulution. |
