Save embedded objects easily in Safari Web Browsers
Mozilla is nice because if you want to save an embedded movie or flash file from a website, it had a Site Info viewer to you could see all of the files associated with a website.

Though Safari lacks an exact duplicate for this feature, if you open the Activity Window in Safari, you can just double click any part of it and it will open in a Safari window. You can then do a 'Save As' and you get the flash movie (or whatever) saved locally.

You may have known this already, but it's new to me and sure beats 'View Source' and copying information.

[robg adds: If you haven't used the Activity window in Safari, you're missing out on one of its nicer features, in my opinion. You can easily see the various bits that are used to create each page, and as noted here, open any one of them easily with a double-click. I use this window all the time to load CSS and JavaScript source files.]

That is a lot easier than what I have been doing. I was using curl in the terminal.

Not being able to right click and get properties like windows users has always been an annoyance for me.

You could just purchase a two or more button mouse.

Doesn't seem to work for movie trailers on the Quicktime site. Any suggestions?

Usually clicking on the triangle in the lower right corner of the movie will let you save the trailers.

It worked for me. Did you let the QT movie to load in full? The "Save as" became available only after the whole film had loaded.

I allowed several Quicktime trailers to load fully in their own windows and still could not save them. No "Save As" option appeared in the Quicktime window's right-corner options. When I attempted to save the movie file using Safari's File>Save As option, the title of the file appeared in the field (complete with the .mov extension.) The resultant file was only ~4k; clicking on it opened a window in Quicktime saying Quicktime 5.02 or higher is required to run the movie. I've got 6.3! Were these streaming files?

Do you need Quicktime Pro for this to work with the trailers? Flash .swf files saved without problems as did embedded movie files on other sites.

Aside from the difficulties with the Quicktime trailers, it's an excellent tip. It's helped me grab a bunch of gems that always seemed out of reach. Thanks 'Anonymous!'

You're welcome (I didn't have my account working when posting this hint). I don't know what the issue is with the quicktime trailers...I can save them to disk after using the 'Activity Window' to open them in their own window, and I don't have QT Pro.

Only with QickTime Pro.
