Resolve iChat AV connection issues on older machines

I submitted the following as a bug report to Apple and thought it might be helpful to people here...

Problem: Can't complete connection, with an insufficient bandwidth error. From discussion at macosxhints.com, the solution seemed to be to set the bandwidth limit to something other than none. However, on my Lombard PowerBook, this option remains greyed out, presumably because the machine cannot support video.

Fix: Have the person at the other end set a non-zero bandwidth. This clears up the problem -- as long as at least one of the two machines has a non-zero bandwidth setting, the audio connection works perfectly.

Additional problem: I assume the reason why I can't set the bandwidth limit is because my machine cannot support video; I couldn't find the plist setting to try manually overriding it. If that's the case, then two older Macs cannot set up an audio chat, since neither can set the bandwidth limit.
