Many of my friends, using Audio only, could not get connections to work in the new iChat AV, even though we all have broadband and fairly new G4 systems. We discovered that by setting the video bandwidth to 500K (from the default "none") that connections worked properly.

A workaround for iChat AV audio connection issues
My audio drops out much quicker than this, but muting and un-muting the ichat seems to fix it (at least temporarily).
Silly question
The answer to this is certainly very obvious, but where can I change this setting? I didn't see it in the preferences or the menus, and the iChat help doesn't mention this.
Re: Silly question
Just go to iChat->Preferences->Video and select the bandwidth setting from the bottom of the window.

I think if you have audio-only capabilities, the bandwidth-limiting setting is grayed out. That's what I'm seeing on my 500 MHz iBook.

I found that clicking the mute button on and off improves audio quality. |
