Rename iTrip stations in iTunes to ease station finding Apps
For all of you who have the way cool iTrip FM transmitter for your iPods, you know that it puts quite a few files in your iTunes playlist. When traveling, it can be quite cumbersome to scan thru your radio stations and then find the iTrip station to match. If you need to switch radio stations a lot during your trip, it can be confusing to remember which radio station sounds the best for a specific area.

To make life a (little) easier, once you find a radio station that works well for a particular area, rename the iTrip station entry for the particular frequency, and put in the city's name after the frequency name. For example:

96.3
96.5 - Columbus
96.7
96.9 - Dayton
etc...

This way, when you are approaching that particular city, you just need to go locate the name of the city, instead of trying to remember which frequencies to use with each city.

How well does iTrip work, i.e. reception, distance, clarity?

It sounds like a good FM radio station, provided you tune it to a clear station. This is not nearly as good as even one of those cassette adapters or any other wired connection, but handy in certain situations...

I was a little disapointed with the performance in the car or anywhere else, my expectations were too high. In reality, it is perfect for my intended use which is playing my collection on my boat.

How long does it take to actually receive an iTrip once you order one?

I wanted to buy one but I didn't want to wait five weeks...

I didn't want to wait either. So I just ran down to the Apple Store (Seattle, WA) And they had a few instock. I love it! The reception is great when the battery is fully charged. When the battery on your iPod is low, then the reception is about 5 ft. I will never go back to cables :)

Pardon me if this is covered in the iTrip documentation; I've yet to receive mine. How does one go about renaming?

Each station "preset" is really just a short MP3 file. You simply rename the track in iTunes.

I want something similar for my powerbook, a USB-based radio transmitte, any suggestions? The reason I want USB is two, the audio-out connector on my PB is starting to break, and USB should supply enough power for such a unit, i.e., avoiding the need for batteries etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
