iTunes4 keyboard track selection methodology Apps
I'm not sure why I never noticed this before. As you probably know, in iTunes, typing the first few characters of a track with the track list area 'selected' will match similar songs ... but I didn't realize it all depends on which sorting column is selected.

For example, sorting by albums will match what you type to the first few letters of an album name, and so on.

Doesn't work for me (iTunes 3.01, running in OS X 10.2.6). Typing in a string always takes me to the first track that most closely matches that string, regardless of what criteria I am currently sorting by. The author doesn't really state whether "typing" is done in the search box or not (I'm assuming not), but neither way works as described for me.

Perhaps it's an iTunes 4 feature that's not present in iTunes 3; if so I'll find out when Apple gets rid of the peak limiting feature of iTunes 4 - until then, I'll wait to upgrade.

Yes - It's a new "feature" in iTunes4. I am pissed about it because you can't keep your library organized by artist and then type in the song name.
