A completely lite, short, and sweet Pick of the Week this week -- primarily because I was feeling the need for relief after the conclusion of the book project, a fairly eventful week at the office, and too much work to do around the house. In search of some mindless releief, someone pointed me to Pac the Man 2, a clone of one of the most popular of the 1980's arcade video games. After about five seconds, I'd forgotten all the week's travails and was focused on keeping my yellow orb alive...
If you ever played Pac Man, you know how to play Pac the Man 2. If you're new to the genre, the basic rules are: eat the dots, don't get eaten by the roving monsters. Pac the Man 2 doesn't clone the arcade game's layouts, instead using 25 new levels, each with their own twists to master. The OS X version also uses alpha and 3D effects to bring some life to the old standard, and includes a variation of the "Ms PacMan" game that was also immensely popular in the 'old days.'
Complete with musical score and (theoretically, though I couldn't get it working) a level editor, Pac the Man 2 is a fun diversion and it's tough to complain about the price!
