Recover lost iMovie volume fades in QuickTime exports

When I (export a project from iMovie (3.02) to QuickTime on my iBook 700 (640MB RAM, OS X.2.6), it loses song volume adjustments such as fadeouts. I overcame this using SndSampler, a Classic app with a free version (3.7.1). Because it works mainly in AIFF format, it's a nice fit for iMovie. Here's how to fix the problem, step by step:

  1. Edit your movie as usual, including fading songs in and out. Note the time stamps of the segments of the songs that you have used.
  2. Quit iMovie.
  3. Go into your iMovie project's Media folder and open the relevant songs with SndSampler.
  4. Modify the song, adding the fade-ins and fade-outs where you want them.
  5. Save the modified song back into the Media folder
  6. Launch iMovie and export the project
Voila! You can probably do the same thing with SoundStudio (PotW 30 Dec 2002), but it'll cost ya $50...

[robg adds: I haven't had a chance to confirm this issue with exported fades -- has anyone else run into this?]
