Use an Apple-provided font editor to modify fonts Apps
After reading the hint on changing fonts using Font Lab, I remembered having a free font editor from Apple of all places. If you have the Asian Fonts installed, in the /Applications -> Utilities directory there is an Asia Text Extras folder, which contains of all, a font editor (called TrueType Font Editor). See Apple Knowledge base article 24435 for more info on the program.

[robg adds: Yes, it's a hint on finding a program in a folder! But given that I had never stumbled across this one, I figured there might be others who might also need a quick pointer...]

recoil.org used to have a freeware font editor called Lord Pixel,
but the site has been down for months.

Does anyone know what happened to them, and where I could
download Lord Pixel from?

There is a way to change system font

there is a free program called tinker tools which allows you to change the default system font as well as some other things. It's easy as well http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool2.html
