Here's how to save iTunes4 videos even though the playback bar is missing the little downward dongle with the Save As menu item.
Unix Geek way:
- Launch Terminal
- Type cd /private/tmp
- Type ls, and look for a numbered directory. Mine is 501.
- cd into that numbered directory
- Type cd Temp*; this puts you into the Temporary Items folder
- Type ls and look for files named QTPluginTemp with numbers after the word.
- Copy this file to the desktop. Wait for it to appear.
- Rename from the desktop with a .mov extension. Confirm.
- Launch in QuickTime
Non Unix Geek way:- Command-F from Finder
- Add criteria: Visibility. Set to All
- Search for File Name contains QTPluginTemp
- Select the file
- At the bottom part with the folders, double-click Temporary Items to open the folder
- Drag a copy to the desktop.
- Rename with a .mov extension. Confirm that you want to add the extension.
- Launch in QuickTime
Extra hint: do the search *while* the video is downloading.
