Change the default postition of the Finder search window Desktop
When I search for files or folders in the Finder, I always drag directories into the search window - so I have to seek the search window every time. Use this hint to change the default position of the search window.

Goto ~/Library -> Preferences, and open the file com.apple.finder.plist using TextEdit. Search for the entry called SearchCriteriaWindowLocation. Change the value in the next line to 0, 44, and then restart the Finder (either via the command line, or with a logoff and login). Now, when you open the "Find..." window, it appears in the top left side of your desktop!

Couldn't you just open (Cmd-F) the Find window, move it to
where you want it, and then close it. The next time you
Cmd-F it shows up in the same location. However I'm not
sure if this survives a reboot (didn't test that).

It survives my reboots just fine.

Now, can someone tell me how to get the locations section of teh
find window to expand?

I have 3 drives, totalling 9 partitions, and thats before network
mounts and CD/DVDs.
I don't like that little 4 line high 'specific places' window

I remember seeing a hint describing how to hack the Specfic
Places list size. I _thought_ it was on MacOSXHints but have not
been able to find it here or on the other Mac OS X fourms I
frequent :(

If someone knows how/where to hack the Specfic Places list size,
please post it.

Change the default postition of the Finder search window

maybe I'm missing something, but if you make the path window
SMALLER, it jumps from a hierarchical list to a X->Y->Z linear
list. That solved my problem!

Work for Get-Info?
Authored by: shotwise on May 03, '03 10:31:27AM

Would this same trick work for the Get-Info window in Finder?
Mine keeps showing up under the dock on the left side, and it
would be great to be able to move it.

Does anyone know what parameter I should change?

in my finder, i only have the com.apple.finder.plist file in the user library, yet even there, I have no searchcriteria. anyone know how or why this may be? and how to fix it? one more thing......is there a way to have permanent network mounts? such as from start up just always have the drive on the desktop? thanks

Just open one time your search window! Do you not have 10.2
or above??
