Use Safari to bookmark shared iTunes4 music Web Browsers
I use iTunes 4 and publish some of my playlists via network and internet. The protocol is named "daap" (Digital Audio Access Protocol) on port 3689/tcp (see previous hint on passing it through your firewall).

I type daap://my.host.name/ or daap://my.ip.number in Safari and hit return. Safari launches iTunes and opens up the shared list. I have collected a lot of that kind of bookmarks now, organized them in a folder called "musik" and put the folder in my bookmark list. So I have fast access to all non-Rendezvous music sites.

Here's another interesting new URL:

Try Me!

It links directly to the Apple Music Store Search!

Format I
itms://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearchResults?searchTermHere

Where search term can be any term below in any order:
songTerm - song title
artistTerm - artist name
albumTerm - album name
composerTerm - composer name

Example:
itms://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearchResults?artistTerm=Bob Dylan&albumTerm=Blood On The Tracks

Format II
A generic search for all fields uses this form:
itms://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/search?term=Muddy Waters

Okay, this is interesting. I clicked on your "try this" link, which
(according to the text at the bottom of my Safari window) is a
search for Jimi Hendrix. iTunes came to the front, opened up a
browsing window, and took me directly to...Violent Femmes!

Did anyone else get Violent Femmes instead of Hendrix from
this link?

That odd - when I click on it - go right to page listing Hendrix
tunes. Yes - the %20 is a good idea, but from my experience
with Safari - you can just use standard "Jimi Hendrix" and it fills
in the entities (%20) for you. Sorry about that guys.

I was very frustrated when posting anyway - I spent over 45
mins trying to get that dang hint printed and no matter what I
do - Hints keeps hard wrapping my typing. I have no idea what
is causing it - but it wreaks havoc on entering code, I finally had
to resort to using Lynx in the terminal to get it entered properly.
You'll notice THIS post hard wrapped - extending just slightly
below the "i" in the main "MacOSXHints" graphic in the top left
corner of the page.

seekbus and feste - what browser are you using? I notice that
your posts are hard wrapped also.

Cool, this works! I didn't have iTunes running at home, so I just ran:

sudo osascript -e 'tell app "iTunes" to start'

Now I wonder if there is a way to get the iTunes "server" to run via command line, i.e without having the iTunes running.

I have sharing on and nmap says that port is open, but iTunes pops up a dialog that the server is not found or not responding? My firewall is off.

Well actually you can connect to your own share... just put in the external ip address. If you have a LAN of some sort you may have other issues... port forwarding, router/firewall.

I tried daap://localhost and daap://127.0.0.1 but no luck, probably something to do with netinfo and lookups. However as I said, I was definitely able to use my external IP to connect to my own share. No I will not post it here ;-p

You could also make an applescript that simply says,

open location "daap://my.host.name/"

or

open location "daap://my.ip.number"

and put the script in your iTunes scripts folder. I would like to
know how to add an option to the script to automatically enter
passwords on password protected music servers. If anyone has
any ideas...
