I just bought a 12" iBook. It wouldn't recognize a shared printer, so the dealer suggested I reinstall Jaguar using the "Erase Disk" option, since I didn't have much data on it.
After reinstall, the Setup Assistant wouldn't run because the system didn't recognize the display, and the desktop showed up at about two-thirds size. Additionally, the "Software Update" option wouldn't display in "System Prefs," and disk images would mount, but not open.
I called Apple Support. They were very cooperative, nice and supportive. After about an hour, they determined that the install disks sent with the iBook were the wrong ones. Better yet, there was no correct set immediately available. They said they will ship me disks "as soon as they are available," which is nice, but for the next few days the iBook is an iPaperweight.
Yao wouldn't be happy.
Until you verify the serial numbers on your install disk with Apple support, DO NOT reinstall OSX on the 12" iBook.
