New modem options available on certain 10.2.5 Macs System
I was just adding a new "location" that uses a dial-up modem for some work I am doing next week. When setting it up, I noticed under the "Modem" tab of the Internal Modem setup (Network prefs panel) that there was a choice stating "Notify me of incoming calls while connected to the internet." Within that option, there are also settings for "Play alert sound when receiving a call" and "Remind me XX seconds [10 default] before disconnecting me."

Is this a new feature of 10.2.5, or had I just not noticed it under previous updates? That could very well be, since I don't use my modem much. Either way, I like it.

[robg adds: The consensus of a couple friends of mine is that this is new in 10.2.5. Also, I don't see these choices on my G4 desktop, but they are present on a G4/800 15" and a G4/867 12" PowerBook, so there must be some difference in the modem in my desktop.]

Does that have to do with the new v92 modems?

I haven't seen the documentation but I believe it is a V.92
feature supported in Jaguar. It requires
"Call Waiting" and I believe your ISP's access modems must
support V.92. When you get an incoming call the call waiting
feature sends an alert to the computer and the internet
connection can be put on hold while you answer the voice call.
The ISP has a default time out for holding the connection open.
Without any one of the 3 requirements, it is crippled.

I definitely saw it on 10.2.4 and 'Notify me of incoming calls
while connected to the Internet' is related to v.92 modems.

The problem is trying to find an ISP which supports the v.92
spec. If you find one it will allow you to pause your internet
connection and answer an incoming call, when you are finished
you will be automatically reconnected.

The option to request notification of a call coming through has always
existed right from the beginning of 10.2, but if you have BT's 1571
answer machine enabled on the same line as the modem, the facility
does not work. It featured in Sys.preferences/Network/Modem tab

This was actually introduced in 10.2.0. I first saw it on my TiBook when I loaded Jaguar. I have never seen it on my iMac 450 DV+.

This option has always been available to me on my Powerbook
G4 800 (but, I don't think it has ever worked). The first OS I
used with it was 10.2.0. Dunno if it is
available with previous releases.

Not available, apparently, on a Dual 1G/G4 purchased last July.

Must be detecting the exact model of modem that came with the
machine.

How do you find out the modem intalled in your machine?
It doesn't show in system profiler.

I do see the option on my MDD G4 1GHz bought in November...
Maybe it depends from country too, phone lines have to support that too I guess ?

Just checked, and these options are present on my 15" 800Mhz G4 iMac
running 10.2.5. Pretty sure they weren't there when I set up Jaguar.
Haven't had the opportunity to try them out yet though.

It was available under Mac OS X 10.2.3 on my dual 1.25GHz (FW800), which was the OS it shipped with. Somewhat notably, the options are there no matter which modem driver I use.

The "country" seems to be stuck on United States, even though I'm in Australia. Anyone know how to change it? I've tried resetting the country in just about every preference I could find.
