Wireless printing on D-Link 713P Network

I just created a tutorial on setting up Mac OS X to print to the "Windows only" print server attached to the D-Link 713P home router/access point. The D-Link contains a parallel port and serial port which can be used for a printer and a modem, respectively.

I tell ya, there is nothing like being able to create a print job from the living room and picking it up in the computer room.

Just a note: While HP makes Mac OS X drivers available for many
of their inkjet printers, you can't use those to print via anything
but USB. It just won't let you do it, and HP insists on installing
their nasty USB monitor software. I dunno about other makes.

I've got a Photosmart 1115 and a D-Link 713P. I've been
printing via lpr using this basic technique for a while now.

The mentioned/linked HPIJS+Ghostscript stuff works great for
me.

If you *have* another make, the printer drivers might be more
flexible and may allow you to choose your target - like an lpr
location.

I just updated the page. Not much, just some fixes that were pointed out to me, plus I added a relevant links section and issues section.

Oh, cewatts, I also have a Photosmart (1000), but I connect it locally to my Windows box. I print to that one using IPP. It's local because I like its CompactFlash slot :)

Heh, that's funny. I have the printer directly-connected (USB) to
an XP box as well.

Also so I can use it as a CF reader. :-)
It's nice to be able to use HP's ink-level tools from the PC.

Even though it is directly connected, though, I print from the PC
via the print server. Seems faster. HP's windows print drivers are
much more flexible (compared to their mac drivers) about what
sort of connection they can print over.

I followed your instructions to the letter, but nothing happens when I send a job to the printer (10.2.4 on a Lombard printing on Epson 750). The other computer in the house, an XP laptop, can print through the wireless network (when it's not locking up the router).

I also tried various permutations of these instructions without success: Mac OS 10.2.6, DI-713P, Epson Stylus C80 printer. Would appreciate any further suggestions/references.

This also worked on my US Robotics 8022 wireless router. Print queue was the only difficult bit - I guessed lp which turned out to be correct as well.

I tried your tips and it is printing, but in very small type in the upper left hand corner of the page. I am running OSX version 10.3 and have a Canon_i960. I downloaded the latest driver from the Canon website and it still is not working. One thing I do notice is that the exact printer description is not showing up when I specifiy the model in the Print center. Also, I have the D-Link DI-713U for USB printers. Could this also be a problem? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
