AppleCare TechTool CD won't boot newest Macs System
A few weeks ago, I received a new 800FW PowerMac and signed up for the extended protection plan, with which they sent me a CD with TechTool Deluxe 3.0.2. The front of the CD reads, "For Mac OS 8.6 or later and Mac OS X or later," and "To strart up from this CD hold down the C key ..."

If you insert the CD when the mac is running, two CD icons come up, one for Classic and one for X. Sunday I decided to try it and discovered that no matter what I did, the Mac would only boot into OS X on the hard drive. I called Apple, and after trying various things, the support person discovered a document that said this CD only works with a dual booting Mac and doesn't work at all on the Mac it came with.

The "good" news is that Apple is working on a replacement CD that will work with the macs that only boot into OS X, and the promise is that it will be sent out soon.

Sorry but my advice would be don't bother waiting. I've been down this road already with a 667 Powerbook. Same thing. Same story. A new version to be released soon. Well the new version came out and it still didn't boot my PB. Tech Sppt finally admitted that many machines never get a functioning Boot CD.

I finally bought Disk Express. It boots the Powerbook and the software is dynamite.
