A few weeks ago, I received a new 800FW PowerMac and signed up for the extended protection plan, with which they sent me a CD with TechTool Deluxe 3.0.2. The front of the CD reads, "For Mac OS 8.6 or later and Mac OS X or later," and "To strart up from this CD hold down the C key ..."
If you insert the CD when the mac is running, two CD icons come up, one for Classic and one for X. Sunday I decided to try it and discovered that no matter what I did, the Mac would only boot into OS X on the hard drive. I called Apple, and after trying various things, the support person discovered a document that said this CD only works with a dual booting Mac and doesn't work at all on the Mac it came with.
The "good" news is that Apple is working on a replacement CD that will work with the macs that only boot into OS X, and the promise is that it will be sent out soon.
