Print Center crashes when Epson 740 is out of ink

There's a issue with the Print Center, at least with the Epson 740 drivers, that I've never seen documented. My 740 is connected to the Mac via a powered USB hub. If you run out of ink, either black or color, the Print Center will crash when the print job goes to print. The ink indicator has to be solid red, not the blinking indicator (blinking indicates that you're low on ink). But this crash happens every time, even in 10.2.4.

This may also happen to other printers, but I don't have a good way to test this. Basically, if Print Center is crashing, check your printer's ink levels.

[robg adds: I've got a blinking red indicator on my Epson C90 right now; I'll see what happens when it goes solid red...]
