I noticed this when I was adjusting the screen height of my display (an eMac), under Geometry in the Displays preference panel. You can click on the image of the monitor and drag your mouse to dynamically make adjustments. (hover your pointer over it and notice the green box). May not be new, but I'd never noticed this before. I usually just used the adjustment buttons on the right.

Cool...
Works with Studio Display on AGP G4 400.
where's "geometry" in prefs?
does this work only on Apple Displays? Or is it my Mac that's too old? I don't see anything called "geometry" in my prefs... Got a iiYama CRT screen and an ancient G4 450MHz.
where's "geometry" in prefs?
The dynamic adjustment only works for Macs with built-in CRT monitors, i.e., G3 All-in-One (Molar), iMac, eMac, etc. As theRhino pointed out, the feature has been around since before OS9.
addendum: where's "geometry" in prefs?
Realized that, oh yeah, the digital flat screen CRT (champaign) monitors and even my old 1710AV could also be controlled via the geometry prefs by dragging if the AppleVision drivers were installed.
This takes me back to 1998
This takes me back to 1998, when I saw this demonstrated on a PowerMac G3 All-in-One running Mac OS 8.1.
:)
never had one of those
never owned an "all-in-one" Mac... That would explain why I had never heard of it :) thx for the info!
Change your screen geometry via a mouse drag
This has been around for a long while. All-in-one, iMac CRT, eMac, and any G4 with the ADC CRT display. Its an interesting thing if you have not seen it before. |
