Safari supports multiple undo levels Web Browsers
I was just mucking around in Safari and discovered something that I didn't expect - though perhaps I should have.

I was deleting all of the Apple-supplied bookmarks in the toolbar. I started then to edit the name of one of my links, and messed up. So I pressed Command-Z and it fixed it. I pressed it again, and it started to add bookmarks back into the toolbar that I had deleted! Not sure how useful this is, but thought I would share it with others.

Cocoa makes it fairly easy to support multiple undo. It still takes some work on the part of the developer, but it's a lot easier when you have Cocoa's undo system doing most of the work.

As more and more applications are written for Cocoa, you should expect to see more programs supporting multiple levels of undo.

If a WEB BROWSER can support undo's then why on G-d's Green Earth doesn't undo work for the Address Book???

I was editing a bunch of imported cards and made a mistake by deleting a selected line instead of inserting. There was NO WAY to get back the original text! And this is immediately after hitting the single wrong character that wiped out the selected text.

I was flabbergasted that Escape didn't work, Cmd-Z didn't work, Cmd-. didn't work, nothing brought it back that I could see. A simple overtype without even moving the the next field.

That's the opposite of usability. Every single edit is permanent and irreversible! Of course, I could just restore the entire database from backup, but that's not a very fine undo level.

actually, speaking of odd undo behaviour/lack thereof, while editing bookmarks in Safari (v60), i accidentally overtyped one of the names of the bookmarks, and i too couldn't use escape or undo*!

that is, i couldn't use undo until i accepted the faulty text by pressing return. then undo restored the previous name. i think this is a change from how undos used to be handled.

* actually, i could select undo/redo, but it was undo/redo'ing changes that occured before i had obtained an insertion point in the bookmark name and had overtyped the name.

why on G-d's Green Earth doesn't undo work for the Address Book?

Address Book does have a hidden undo feature! Granted it could be simpler to get at, but it's there. For example, suppose I just accidentally deleted the word "joke." I can invoke the undo by positioning the cursor where the beginning of the word had been, then carefully pressing these keys: j, o, k, and finally the e key. (no modifiers, or it won't come out the same.) That's it! Clumsy, but it works. There's even a multiple undo, but I haven't tried it because my memory's not that good.

Thanks! What a relief, and here I thought it was Address Book's fault! ;)

Okay, you're way ahead of me. I'm so basic I cannot even figure out how to delete a bookmark from the bookmarks list. Tried highlighting and delete. Got a G-5 with safari and am totally flumoxed.
