Helpful information resources for sendmail UNIX
I recently discovered the following excellent resources when dealing with learning how to configure sendmail. These allowed me to solve a persistent error I was gettting whenever I sent email from Eudora via my local installation of smtp, which complained that the sender's domain could not be resolved. The solution was to modify, but the sites which solved the problem for me were so interesting and the search so arduous, I thought I'd share them FWIW.
So here are my 3 links:
  1. If you get an error from smtp that states "Domain of sender does not resolve," or for any other reason sendmail is being too picky, then try to set a FEATURE according to this page at

  2. How to set the FEATURE? Do it with the m4 stuff at

  3. For some reason, I didn't have a file. If you don't have a file, the intro page at will help you create one.
[Editor's note: I haven't turned on my sendmail yet, but I figure these resources might be useful to those of you who are braver than I am!]

The link on the site on how to enable sendmail is dead. Can someone re-post it?

I prefer to use postfix. Much less hassle, no messing with permissions, and apple won't break it because its installed via fink.
