Filling out FAFSA forms with Safari Web Browsers
For those college-bound folks (and parents) who need to fill out the FAFSA forms on the FAFSA web site, you can successfully use Safari to fill out the forms on-line if you use Safari Enhancer to enable the debug menu (or use this hint) and then turn on the User Agent = Windows MSIE 6.0. Without this tip, there is no Mac OS X compatible browser that will work with the FAFSA forms.

Safari also works just fine with the CSS Profile, without having to make the User Agent adjustments.

Safari and FAFSA

I just filed all of my law school FAFSA info using Safari. However, I did not do ANY of the things suggested in this hint and had no problems. It was VERY slow, but it worked fine. As such, I am not sure that this is an accurate hint.

I filled out FAFSA forms using Chimera with no troubles. Haven't tried Safari, but at least on OS X browser also works.

Same here: Chimera worked fine with the FASA form, so the statement that NO OS X browser works with the FASA is partially wrong. I say partially, because maybe the author of the hint tried to do something that I did not, which gave him a problem.

Besides, even the FASA's browser requirements lists Mozilla as compatible, so Mozilla-based browsers should not have an issue. Furthermore, being a government site, they need to use standards-compliant code to meet Section 508 accessibility requirements, so it leads me to believe that the author may have tried to do something funky when completing/submitting the FASA form, and that specifying IE 6.0 is not necessary.

Just a hunch. The tip is a good one for spoofing the many "Gotta use IE" sites.

I just completed my FAFSA using Internet Explorer 5.2 and OS X 10.2 with no problems including submitting PINS.

I doubt if this hint is true for iCab http://www.icab.de/dl.php as iCab's identity can readily be set to
MS IE 6.0 by using the prefs settings Edit->Preferences->Identity/Settings where you can choose MS IE as the
browser's identity & then set it to any version number you wish including 6.0.
