Use Keynote theme images in Keynote's Image Library Apps
Keynote allows you to edit the supplied themes, or to create your own, however the excellent graphics used in Apple's themes are not available in the Keynote Image Library. However, you can get ahold of them ... Apple's themes are stored inside the Resources for the Keynote application; here's how to get them for your own use:
  1. Locate the Keynote application in your Applications folder.
  2. Control-click on the app and choose "Show Package Contents"
  3. A new window will open showing the contents of the package
  4. Locate the Resource folder, and show its contents using the same control-click command.
  5. In that new window, locate the English.lproj folder
  6. In that folder, locate the Themes folder. If you haven't dramatically changed your OS X installation, you should now be in the path '/Applications -> -> Contents -> Resources -> English.lproj -> Themes'
  7. In the Themes folder, you will find a series of files with names like '01_White_8x6.kth'. Each theme is numbered and named by size, so '01_White_8x6.kth' is 'theme 1, White, 800 x 600'
  8. You will find two of each theme, one for the 800x600 size, and another for the 1024x768 size.
  9. Choose the theme from which you want to get the images.
  10. Ctrl-click the appropriate theme file, and choose (once again) "Show Package Contents"
  11. The folder you now see contains all the graphics used in the chosen theme
  12. To make these file accessible to you in Keynote, copy (do not move) the files you want into the folder of your choice. Keynote's default folder for images is '/Library -> Application Support -> Keynote -> Image Library'.
Note: Due to possible copyright restrictions, I would not recommend distributing custom themes that use Apple owned images!
