A fix for Acrobat Reader crash on launch problems Apps
Seemingly out of the blue, Acrobat (Reader) was crashing at launch ("Application has unexpectedly quit"). I trashed the prefs for Acrobat, and the problem persisted. I checked for a crash log in ~/Library -> Logs -> CrashReporter
and read the AcrobatReader 5.0.crash.log (if you double-click on the file, it should just open up in the Console utility). Two lines caught my eye:
#1 0x001e4640 in LanguageSelector::ChooseSystemLanguage(void)
#2 0x001e3d5c in LanguageSelector::OpenDefaultLanguageResFile(void)
And that seemed pretty strange to me (!): Acrobat was trying to check my language setting(s) and found nothing ? Hmm...

So, I opened my System Preferences -> International Prefs, and clicked on the Language tab. In order to force a value to be written (not sure where that pref lives...), I dragged French to the top of the list and closed the Pref panel (Show All). I opened it again and moved English back to the top of the list and quit out of System Preferences (be sure not to skip this step!) ... and voila - the problem was fixed, Acrobat Reader launched fine.

This would probably be alot more helpful (!) if I added the following:

The Acrobat Reader crashing, actually happened after seemingly "losing" my Accounts panel in System Preferences. I applied another hint provided here at macosxhints, and deleted
~(home directory)/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache

which restored my Accounts panel.
Strangely, that cache file must have been the only place my language settings were stored, in terms of explaining my troubleshooting & resolution.

Also works on Acrobat full version

I was having the same problem with the full version of Acrobat -- changing the order of languages in the International control panel and then changing it back fixed it.

osx_4me, u_r_a god! This problem has plagued me for weeks, and has stumped all the tech people here. After reloading the software from scratch didnt work, they kinda gave up. I think I'm pretty smart, but I would never have thought of your solution in a million years! Needless to say, it worked perfectly. What a weird glitch- no info on Apple about this either. Mind if I call you direct next time I have a problem!?!? Thanks again!
