Although I'm not actually at the keynote, I'm watching a live broadcast from a location with a wireless connection and my iBook. As long as it stays active, I'll modify this hint every few minutes with a blurb on each key announcement...
Of course, if you're reading this, that means you've got web access, and you could be watching the webcast instead :-).
KEYNOTE NOTES:
- 09:12am - Steve has taken the stage
- 09:15am - 5 million Windows users have visited Apple's switch site
- 09:16am - Apple store update - 85million people within 15 miles of a store
- 09:16am - Christmas quarter did $148million (on target)
- 09:16am - 50% of sales are to switchers, 1.4 million December visitors
- 09:19am - Ten for Teachers education program update - 300,000 free copies distributed, extended to March 31st.

- NEW PRODUCT: Burton (snowboard company) snowboard jacket with iPod pocket, and iPod controls in the arm - $499 online only, limited edition
- 09:25am - OS X update: 5.0 million active users; 9-10 million by end of 2003; Now 5,000 native OS X apps (up from 2,000). MS Office promo extended to April 7th ($199 with a new Mac).
- 09:26am - Program updates: Nascar Racing 2002, QuickBooks, VirtualPC 6, Director MX, ProTools for OS X ships this month ($495 entry price point, $75 upgrade price)
- 09:30am - Final Cut Pro is #1 pro video editing application (based on units sold)
- NEW PRODUCT: Final Cut Express - most of FCP features, looks like FCP, works like FCP ... unlimited layers, compositing tools, imports FCP, iMovie ... 200 effects and transitions included, includes real time effects ... pro-level color correction tools ... it will cost only $299!
- 09:37am - New products will only boot in OS X, not OS 9.
- 09:38am - The digital hub update ... strategy was announced two years ago ... iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD released ... only Apple has all four of the digital lifestyle apps ... all apps have high interaction ... teaser about integration of apps into something new...
- NEW PRODUCT: iPhoto2 - integrated with iTunes, one-click enhance, retouch brush, archive to CD and DVD. Search iTunes library, include any song, songs are stored with albums (each can be unique). iDVD slideshows - just push an iDVD button and iDVD3 launches with slideshow premade! One click enhance fixes color, lighting, white balance, etc. Retouch brush can repair damaged images, remove scratches, etc.
- NEW PRODUCT: iMovie3. Fully integrated with iTunes, iDVD, and iPhoto. Added chapters for iDVD, and included some Ken Burns' effect for digital slideshows (approved by Ken!), precise audio editing. iMovie no longer takes over the whole screen, timeline redone, iTunes songs available in a scrolling list for easy import. Skywalker sound effects available as well! Volume can change within a clip, across a curve, up and down ... Panning across still photos, all iPhoto library images are available, set start and stop panning points, and it does the rest! Also new titles, transitions, effects ... to take your movie to iDVD, just hit a button to launch iDVD3 and import the movie instantly, with scene selection menu from chapter markers!
- NEW PRODUCT: iDVD3. Integrated into iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie ... 24 new themes, scene selection from iMovie ... the themes are incredible, including the ability to move video within the frames ... sountracks included, but can be overriden with iTunes songs. Raw media cost down to $3.00 each.
- NEW PRODUCT: iLive - The intergrate suite, available January 25th (Saturday), bundled with all new Macs. Free download of iTunes and iPhoto2 and iMovie3 ... iDVD3 will be bundled in a box together with the others for $49.
- NEW PRODUCT: Safari. The Apple-branded 'turbo' browser. Speed was an emphasis. Faster than Chimera! HTML Load speed test (one page loaded after another, total time in seconds): IE 53 seconds, Safari 16.6! ... launch times under three seconds! Wanted to innovate ... SnapBack takes you back to the top of the tree (on any site). Minimalist GUI that gets out of your way, new Bookmarks Library is a new approach to bookmarks ... QuickTime, Flash, Java, etc. The Bookmarks bar acts sort of like the dock, rearrange, drag off, etc. Add to bar and rename in one stepp with one-click button ... the bookmarks library looks like iTunes or iPhoto -- the metaphor works for web sites as well as songs and photos ... web sites from Address Book automatically included ... built in bug button emails problem descriptions to Apple! Half of the code is open source ... all improvements to codebase will be given back to open source ... started with KHTML, built from there. Safari will be available as a beta release, free download, today!
- NEW PRODUCT: Keynote. Presentation software for when presentations really count! Steve has been beta-testing it for over a year -- used for all 2002 keynotes. Slide navigator is primary interface, outlines, text and graphics compositing -- type text and have it fully anti-aliased at all sizes ... alignment guides for vertical and horizontal centers ... multiple master slides ... full alpha channel graphics ... resizing and rotation ... cahnge transparency levels on overlaid images ... multiple image formats supported ... table and chart support ... ships with 100+ professional objects ... table support looks amazing - spinning entries, build by row or solumn, background images ... edit chart data. Includes a number of themes (changes text, background, font, image style) ... 12 themes included and you can create your own. Professional transitions included - cross fades, push, reveal, wipe, spin down, bounce, twirl ... all transitions done by OpenGL - 3d mosaics, spins, cubes. This product looks incredibly easy to use and very powerful (goodbye PowerPoint?!) ... will import and export PowerPoint, PDF, and QuickTime! File format is open and XML-based (third parties will be able to build apps to create Keynote presentations on the fly!). Keynote will be $99 and available now!
- 10:38am - Flashback on TiBook introduction two years ago ... in 2000, 20% of Apple sales were notebooks ... in 2001, it went to 35% ... in 2002 it was 32% ... in 2003, they expect 35% again.
- NEW PRODUCT: - 17" TiBook. The screen from the 17" iMac is in the new TiBook. Still one inch thick - thinner than the original TiBook! 1440x900 resolution ... solid keyboard with glowing letters for use in the dark - automatically detects light levels ... weight 6.8 pounds ... built from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy (not painted!). 1Ghz G4 with 1mb L3 cache, SuperDrive, FireWire 800 (FireWire2), Gigabit ethernet, S-Video output, DVI/ADC, security, power, modem, 2nd USB port, PC card, audio in, audio out! Bluetooth built in, Airport built in ... but it's Airport Extreme - 54Mbps - based on 802.11g standard (802.11a compatible). New TiBook's range is equal to the iBook's (best in biz). 4.5hrs battery life ... will sell for $3,299, shipping in February.
- NEW PRODUCT: Airport Extreme. Base station up to 50 users, auto wireless bridging between base stations, USB printing through port on base station. Will sell for $199.
- One more thing ... (small thing) ... NEW PRODUCT: 12" PowerBook based on TiBook technology. Full sized keyboard, 12" display, slot load drive, 4.6 lbs! 1024x768, 867Mhz G4, GeForce4 420 go (32mb), slot load combo drive, wireless, BlueTooth, ready for AirPort ($99), 5.0 hours battery life. Will sell for $1,799. Build to order add a SuperDrive for $200.
