Drag iChat images directly to image viewers

When you drag an image into the iChat window to send to someone, it shows up on their end as a small representation of itself within the iChat window. As the recipient of one of these images, you probably drag it from there to the desktop, then double-click it to view it in your preferred image browser. This works, of course, but has the disadvantage of leaving these image files on your desktop, which you then have to rename and file, or move to the trash.

Next time you receive an image in iChat, try dragging it directly to your image viewer's icon in the dock instead of to the desktop. It will open without appearing on your desktop, and from there you can rename it and save it to your preferred location in one step.

As a related aside, if you'd like to force the recipient of the image to download it instead of having it appear in their iChat window, drag the file onto their name in the buddy list window (or the chat participants window) -- thanks, Jacco, for that little tidbit!

A basic hint, but a nice one if you prefer to keep your desktop uncluttered and save a few mouseclicks each time you receive an image!
