Change the Finder's search results path display style Desktop
When you search for something in the Finder in OSX Jaguar and it shows the 'Search Results' window, you know how on the bottom you can see the file location, it never seems to display the path clearly without having to move the divider a little?

I found that if you double click the horizontal divider bar, it will adjust the window divider automatically so the path is clearly readable. There also seems to be two states to this when you double click again.

[Editor's note: This hint is even cooler than it sounds. When you double-click the bar, it doesn't just expand the selection area to show the path, it actually condenses the path into a one-line display, sort of like "Volumes -> MyStuff -> Pictures -> Household -> Computers -> G4.jpg", except graphical ... just try it, you'll probably like it. And Search remembers your last-used setting, so you can leave it in the one-line mode!]

I know it is such a little thing, but that is one of the better hints out there. It had always been a pet peeve of mine that the results were in such a cruddy format to begin with. This is a great way to view it.

Now if we could add the same thing to the Finder (like a nice path bar).

Remember this in other apps

I\'m glad that there are people who find this useful. Remember this any time you have a divided window, and the window divider has the little widget for dragging. The Finder is not the only app with divided windows.

I've also found this to be one of my favorite recent hints. What other programs/windows have you found this to be used in?

Thanks,
Andy

Here are a few of my apps with split windows. Usually I can just drag the divider to resize:

Acrobat Reader
Address Book
Script Editor 2.0 beta
Appleworks
BBEdit
iCal
iOrganizeX
iPhoto
iTunes
Mail
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft Entourage
Sherlock
Disk Utility
Keychain Access
Netinfo Manager
Process Viewer
Terminal

I've known about the resizing in some of these, but it'll be interesting to see if a double-click does anything in some of these...

Thanks, everyone!

Two states?

The hint states
There also seems to be two states to this when you double click again.
I was wondering about this. The only two states I see are the old bottom-to-top hierarchical view, and the splendid one line view. Was there a third state--a second one line view state? --Books
