Installing Photoshop Elements on 10.2.3 Apps
Just a heads up to anyone who trys it. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 wouldn't install on my new iBook while logged in as my default (Administrator) account. It kept giving me an error (sorry I don't remember it). Only after logging in as root was I able to complete the install. I'm not certain if this is due to having installed 10.2.3 or what, I was about to back-install if logging in as root didn't work. Remember that you have to do some NetInfo tweaking to enable "Login as Root."

[Editor's note: I've heard sporadic reports of this problem with Adobe apps in general, and I'm pretty sure they pre-date 10.2.3. Does anyone have the definitive cause and/or solution to this potential problem? I say 'potential' as I've installed Elements a couple of times now and never had any trouble with it, but I haven't reinstalled it since upgrading to 10.2.3]

Don't install as root!

You don't need to be root to install Elements.

1. If you get this when trying to install:

Error creating file
1008:5, -5000 Access denied error

Adobe says to repair the disk permissions and then reinstall.

2. If you get this error when you launch Elements...

"Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the file is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file"

Adobe says to quit Elements. Get Info on the Previews folder within the Elements folder, choose Privileges from the drop down list, make sure everything is set to Read & Write, then click Apply. Start Elements.

One of those two problems is likely the problem you encountered. I got these from Adobe's support forums' Elements FAQ.

A Note About Install Adobe Apps.

Unmount any network drives. If you are like me and have a few other systems mounted, Adobe will take days scanning all the files on the network mounts.

Elements

I tried to run Photoshop Elements after a clean install of 10.2.3 and got a message that I was missing certain files (??) and should re-install Elements. I did and had no further problems. Works fine.

Adobe's hints don't work on my iBook running 10.2.5. Running Disk
Utility priviledge repair, setting up a new admin user- no dice. Going to
Net Info, enabling the root user, logging in as root, then installing did
work.

Installing Photoshop Elements on 10.2.3

I had problems opening the Photoshop Elements folder (under Applications 9, Mac OS X 10.2.8) - would always get a spinning wheel and then nothing, restart and same happens again. When I deleted the folder and tried to re-install the installer stopped towards the end, spinning wheel forever again and I restarted - again, can't open that folder and run the programme. Any ideas?

Can't install Photoshop either

When I try to install Photoshop in Panther it launches the installer in Classic mode, then complains that you can't run the installer in classic mode and that I should launch it in Native OSX mode. Any ideas?
