Make the Calculator window very small Apps
Ever want a calculator that takes up very little screen real-estate that you can simply control via the keypad? Just open up the Calculator program in the Applications folder, and then click the Zoom button (the green one with the + in it).

Similar to iTunes, the Calculator snaps up to only show the display, and you can still control it via the keypad. Note that this works whether the Calculator is in Basic or Advanced mode, but when you zoom the window again, it always goes back to Basic mode.

Neat trick for all those who need it! It also looks kinda cool with the sunken-gumdrop look of Cocoa brushed metal apps in OS X 10.2.3.

Odd Dragging Bug
Authored by: Anonymous on Dec 23, '02 10:12:50AM

Hm. Tried collapsing the calculator. With it shrunk, it seems that certain areas of the window border don't respond to drag events, particularly along the top of the window. Anybody else seeing this?

Yea, it seems to be "dead" to dragging in the area below the red line I drew in this screenshot below:

Useful on slower machines...

Because the graphical buttons in the calculator window no longer have to light up in minimized mode, calculator operation is considerably faster on my iBook [(Late 2001) G3 @ 600 Mhz].

The calculator is much faster now. Excellent hint.
