Being an impatient one, I have discovered a way to gain access to the Finder while installing Disk 2 of Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar. The usefulness of this hint is questionable...
[Editor's note: Posted here in the interest of completeness; I certainly haven't tested it myself! I'm also not sure of the side effects one may encounter if you were to do this, so proceed at your own risk ... as you may be installing Jaguar again when it's done!]
Instructions for Panther:
- Choose Print from the File menu.
- Click "Save as PDF".
- From the Where menu, select iDisk -> anything.
- It will state that you are not signed up for .Mac and offer to let you open the Internet Preferences for you. Open Internet Preferences.
- In ".Mac Member Name", type any characters... it doesn't matter.
- Select the Name you entered and go into the Finder's Services menu from the System Preferences menu. Select any of the three options.
