Saving inline images from Mail

In Mail app, there is a problem with graphics that are 'in-line' (embedded in the message). If you receive one of these messages, you may not be able to use the "Save attachment..." menu item. The following solution is the result of a number of members of our local Mac usergroup working on the problem:

  1. From File, select Save as...
  2. Use whatever file name and location you want, and from the pop-up, pick "Raw message source".
  3. Go to the Finder and drag the file you just saved to Suffit-Expander (which I have on the Dock)
After Expander is done, you will find the extracted image on your desktop.

[Editor's note: Sent as an anonymous hint, you can also "pretend you're going to forward the images to someone (by hitting the forward button) and then either drag the icon to the desktop, or click to open in your default image program." I haven't tried this myself, but it may well work.]
