Word v.X and bold text between asterisks

In Word v.X, if you enter text between two *'s, the text will be automatically bolded. For example, *a* will become a as soon as you press "space" after the last asterisk. I came across this by accident, and I can't seem to find any documentation for it. Not sure how useful this is, but it's interesting...

[Editor's note: This is actually a feature in Word, but it's somewhat buried in the menus. Select Tools -> Auto Correct... and then look in the "AutoFormat as you Type" and "AutoFormat" tabs. You'll see an option in the "Replace as you Type" section for "*Bold* and _italic_ with real formatting." So if you don't want this 'feature,' make sure to turn it off here.]
