Use Zoom with a multi-button mouse System
In response to the tip about using the zoom feature in jaguar, you can use the zoom while using the mouse. For those of you who have multi-buttoned mouses you can configure the mouse to zoom in the screen. What use does this have?

I have an optical wireless microsoft mouse that I sometimes use far away from my monitor (I might be watching TV or studying on a desk slightly away from the computer area.) The mouse works from about 50 feet away, and I have configured the mouse so that when I press the scrollwheel and scroll up the screen zooms in. When I press the scroll wheel in and roll it back, it zooms the screen out. That way when I am sitting away from the computer I can zoom in the screen so that I can read what song to play on iTunes. It is VERY useful!

[Editor's note: This worked well on my corded Microsoft Intellimouse, as expected. And it's a great idea for what to do with the almost never used "press and scroll" buttons.]

I tried it with my MS wireless/optical mouse and it doesn't seem to work. Is there a option that needs to be turned on?

Visit Universal Access and click the Turn Zoom On button ... or just hit command-option-8 (or command-option-* on the numeric keypad).

Leave it on?

I wonder whether there is a performance hit to having zoom turned on all the time, even if magnification is at zero. I cannot detect one. Anyone know?
