Configure a Linksys WAP11 from the Terminal

For those of you who are in possession of a Linksys WAP11 basestation ... the WAP Utilites for Unix is a set of command line utilities for Linux to configure this box, and it works on OSX as well.

Two caveats:

  1. You'll need to compile the utility yourself, and might need a small patch to get it going (I can supply the patch if you can't figure it out).
  2. The utility works from Terminal only.
After installation, it seems to work just fine. A bonus is that the utility is able to tweak radiosettings, something which the standard Windows utility can't. With this, you can boost power output a bit, which might extend its range a few meters.
