Interesting uses of Jaguar zoom System
While the Jaguar zoom functions are principally for universal access, the fact that OS X auto-smooths on zoom can be used to good advantage while browsing. I use it often while viewing online comics with small fonts, or when watching movies via browser plugins (where it's hard to change the size of the movies). Yes, not only text; even movies are smoothed on zoom!

Command-Option-* to turn it on
Command-Option-plus/minus to zoom in/out
Command-Option-\ to toggle smoothing.

[Editor's note: There's a lot of power in the zoom feature of Universal Access. If you hit the Zoom Options button in the prefs panel, you can specify a minimum and maximum zoom size. Try dragging the "maximum" slider to something like 10x, and then move and return the "minimum" slider to 1x. Now when you hit the zoom-in key, it will instantly jump to the maximum value you set. Hit the zoom-out key, and it returns to normal view. If you ever need more than the maximum, just hit the zoom-in key again while zoomed in.]

Interesting, not really helpfull...

try this...Open the clock application, turn it to analog, and use the zoom in function.

The interesting thing, is that if you look carefully you can actually see the minute hand move like a true analog clock. I was pleasently amused to find that.

Turn off minimum?
Authored by: hell99 on Oct 01, '02 04:44:40PM

I have both of the sliders in zooming options set to 1x. When I zoom in, and then zoom out, it goes back to 1x automatically. Is there a way to turn off the minimum option?

Increase it off the 1x setting...then it will toggle between your "max" and "min" settings.

Japanese keyboard
Authored by: adriaant on Oct 01, '02 05:41:13PM

If you have a Japanese keyboard, the shortcuts are:

turn on/off: cmd-opt-8
zoom in: cmd-opt-^
zoom out: cmd-opt--

Reason is that apple did not map keyboard correctly, so the keys are where the US keys would have been, although on a Japanese keyboard the +, for example, is located on a different key.

Multiple Monitors
Authored by: Maran on Oct 01, '02 06:21:33PM

Wow, this clearly wasn't written for someone with multiple monitors set on extended desktop -- it centers the zoomed area right on the margin between the two. Very interesting and cool though.

Do remember that it is the * + - from NUM KEYBOARD to use. So on the PB you press Command-Option-fn-* to turn zoom on etc...

zoom on powerbook keyboard?
Authored by: swilcox on Oct 02, '02 10:08:26AM

I'm using a PowerBook and don't have to use the function key to get this to work. Simply pressing Cmd-Option-* (actually, the '8' key) toggles the function on/off. Pressing Cmd-Option-+ (again, just the '=' key, I don't even have to use shift) zooms.

command-shift-3 just picks up the screen area

command-shift-4 is difficult to use

I can't do that
Authored by: hell99 on Oct 03, '02 04:40:46PM

I can't move the minimum off of 1x, without moving the max off of 1x. I don't want a minimum or maximum, I want to just be able to zoom in as much as I want and zoom out as much as I want until 1x. The way I have it now is if I zoom out at all, it automatically goes to 1x. Does anyone know how to turn off the minimum?
