Organize radio stations like songs in iTunes Apps
The iTunes radio stations can be dragged into the Library and playlists just like MP3 files. Once you've done this, you can edit the tags to organize them however you like. I set the Artist to "Radio Station," and the genre to whatever applies. Then I have a smart playlist of all songs which contain the artist "Radio Station." Turn browsing on, and you're no longer limited to Apple's categories. You can also download .pls files from a shoutcast server and drag it to iTunes to add stations that aren't in Apple's list.

I would recommend though, that you uncheck radio stations that are in your library. I haven't tried it, but I suspect that if you were playing your library on random and iTunes landed on a station that it would be stuck on it till you hit stop.

Because you can have radio stations in playlists you can use this hint to wake up to your favorite station via iCal.

Stuck radio streams ... and a trick

This is true.

Another cool thing about Streams in Playlists is you can put one by itself in its own Playlist, name it, say, "Mom's Favorite Stream", then, run this script:

tell application "iTunes"

play playlist "Mom's Favorite Stream"
end tell

Create an army of scripts and voila, Radio Buttons!

iTunes handles on-demand streams poorly

If you try to play streamed music from a site like this http://modperl.com:9000/Songs/ which uses .m3u files, each track gets a separately listing in the iTunes library and never goes away unless you highlight and delete it. Very annoying.

An even better trick would be, how to find Internet Radio Stations now that they're all but illegal... ;)

Never fear. There will always be plenty of off-shore streaming audio.

I also had the problem that while playing the Library I was stuck in one of the radio stations. As it seems unckecking the radio station resolves the issue.

What I did is to create a smart playlist with "Time>100 hours" which essentially only contains the radio stations, if you then command-click on one of the checkboxes they are all selected/deselected and are not included while playing the library and the smart playlist can be used to listen to your favorite stations. If you add your stations from the iTunes Radio to your library they are included in the smart playlist as well. So this is a nice workaround for not beeing able to edit the builtin stations of iTunes.
