Import PhotoCD images with iPhoto Apps
One of the last remaining reasons for booting to OS 9 for me was the inability of OS X to mount PCDs (Kodak PhotoCD master discs). After installing Jaguar (10.2), I discovered that at least the discs show up on my desktop, but Photoshop, GraphicConverter or Preview will not open the .PCD files.

Just for kicks, I launched iPhoto, clicked File -> Import..., and it began importing all the images from the disc. It grabs them at the max resolution (3072x2048), but at least they're imported and you can resize them later.

...will also read in all of the PhotoCD files - just drop the mounted CD icon into the iView window. Very nice!

CDROM-XA

The reason that other applications can't read the files from PCDs properly is because MacOS X 10.2 does not support CDROM-XA format. This means that while you can see the contents of the disc, you can not copy off Photo-CDs or VCDs.

Good source for PhotoCD processing?
Authored by: mithras on Sep 18, '02 09:11:42PM

Incidentally, does anyone know of a good mail-away PhotoCD processor?

I used to use the venerable Seattle Filmworks (now Photoworks), but they, along with most others, have switched to PictureCD.

PictureCD has much lower resolution than PhotoCD - something like 1024x768 instead of 3000x2000. I'd prefer the high resolution.

Any suggestions?
