Verify your spelling in iChat Apps
iChat doesn't put the red underline under misspelled words like Mail and Fire, but it does watch for them.

Right click on a word you think might be misspelled to get the standard contextual menu to see suggestions and fix the spelling, learn the word, or ignore the spelling.

iChat can enable spell checking from the "Edit > Spelling > Check Spelling as you Type" menu item.

Suggestion: Apple PLEASE Fix this!
Authored by: Cerberus on Sep 17, '02 10:07:33AM

I can type 40-45 words a minute with about 3-5 errors and only about 25-30 if I am carefull. Usually type 'TEH' 'OHTER' 'WIHT' 'PELASE' and other really easy words wrong but can type the big ones with ease and accuracy.

(supercalifragalisticexpealidociuous) just testing!

I think this needs to be an enhancement to iChat. PLEASE APPLE, PLEASE!

> iChat doesn't put the red underline under misspelled words

Select "Check Spelling as you type" and you should get the red underline.

The problem with this option is that it can only be set when a message window is open. IOW, simply having iChat running does not allow me to make spell-checking active. If and when I get such a window open, and I choose the check spelling as I type option, will it be persistent until I change it, or will it only be good for that IM window?

Yep

Once you set it, it should remain set and apply itself to all chat windows. If you restart iChat, it remains set as far as I know...
