I moved an address book with about 50 names in Excel's .xls format into the Adress Book using the Palm Desktop Software as a go-between in about five minutes.
Here's how...
- Just export the interesting section of the Excel file as a tab-delimited list .txt (use iCExcel or Excel itself).
- Create a new user in Palm Desktop. In the toolbar, click on your username, and then select "Edit users..." from the pop-up menu then click the New User button.
- Import the generated file with File -> Import...
- Select the proper format (Fields:Adresses, Delimiter:Tab and Return)
- Shuffle the fat-printed field names (eg: Name) into the corresponding places of your file (eg: Jones) then press OK.
Your data is now imported into Palm Desktop, and you are halfway through the procedure now. To finish:- View the imported adresses in Palm Desktop (View -> Adress List) then select all the records (Command-A)
- Export the records (File->Export) in the appropriate Format (Format:vCard) as .vcf
- Open your Adress Book and drop the .vcf file onto the group you want your addresses to show up in, and voila, there they are!
No doubt the basic feature to import text files into the Adress Book should have been integrated already, but this solution is way less complicated than it sounds.
