I recently was reading through the fink mailing list problems and found out that there was a bug that cause several programs to stop working compeletely, with the error "Unable to open termal: vt100," or the error "Unknown terminal type vt100!" Anyway, these programs would work fine in X Windows, which was the workaround. I typed set in XDarwin (which at the time being I had tricked into using fvwm instead of twm rootless). I found that the term setting was set to xterm. So I opened a new Terminal windows and typed
% set term=xtermAnd everything seemed to work, including pico, which was killed when I used fink update-all. If you want to make this change permanent, add it to the /etc/csh.cshrc and /etc/csh.login files. This has been only tested in Mac OS X.1 not 10.2.
