Convert currency and other units in Calculator.app Apps
I'm sure many of you have noticed that the Calculator app in Jaguar now has an Advanced mode that gives it scientific calculation functions. There's also a "Paper tape" option on the calculator that keeps a log of your operations.

More interesting (to me) is a brand new, "Convert" menu. It handles all sorts of length, pressure and temperature type things, but also currency. The currency rates can be kept up to date, using some sort of exchange rates server on the Internet. To use the conversion menu, first enter a value in the calculator, then select the relevant conversion.

Jaguar is getting better and better the more I use it!

Not enough currencies!!!
Authored by: jurgen3k on Aug 28, '02 01:46:58PM

I just tried this new conversion feature.... unfortunately Apple decided not to include enough currencies.... it's missing the Mexican peso. Anyone knows how to add a new currency?

You have to update your currencies values before Mexican Peso shows up.

It tells you something about Jaguar that even the Calculator is internet-enabled.

It's also kind of cool how much shorter the list of currencies is now that all the European currencies have been consolidated into the Euro.

Different dates
Authored by: jtrascap on Aug 30, '02 03:35:56AM

It would be great to get the value for a specific date - I have to convert and track values when I submit expense reports, and that might involve a month's worth of travelling. Oanda is my current source, but I'd REALLY like to do this in the OS (hint, hint...)

PS: I've submitted this to Apple, as I hope all of you with ideas do! (http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/)

The Mexican peso is on there. Read the thread and update your currency list ... maybe the Canadian dollar will be on there too, eh?
