Set your iChat icon with drag and drop Apps
It turns out that you can change the icon for yourself in iChat with drag and drop.

Once you've got iChat running, just drag an image file to the square to the right of your name in either the Rendezvous or Buddy List window. It will change the icon respresenting yourself in all your windows. Grab image files from /Library/User Pictures or where ever...

[Editor's note: I believe you can also add your own image to your Address Book entry and it will be used by iChat.]

iChat problems
Authored by: aranor on Aug 25, '02 07:46:29PM

I was very aggrivated by iChat in my Jaguar pre-release (which happened to be the final release as well, oh well). The buddy icon was acting up. While iChat was open I tried changing it in my addy book, nothing happened. I quit and re-opened iChat, no difference. So I did the drag&drop thing, and it displayed the icon on a white background instead of the normal background. I tried to fix it and ran into a total of 6 unhandled Cocoa exceptions. Bad Apple! No cookie! Anyway, I left it with the white-backgrounded icon. Since then, it's reverted to the behaviour I expect, where the background isn't white, it's whatever's behind the icon.

Also, iChat annoys me in that you can't add new buddies without giving them an address book card. And if you don't fill out the "optional" Addy book card info, the address book ends up with a card with no name. iChat should instead not make any card for a new buddy if you don't give it addy book card info.
