racer, a cool Open GL based Unix race sim has just been ported for Mac OS X and a beta has been posted. It is community built, the source is available (although not Open Source, as the bulk of development has been done by the creator) and modifications and improvements are incorporated into the source. Cars and tracks are all built by the community, and free for download.

Needs to be compiled locally, so will have to get your hands dirty in the Terminal, but looks worth it...

[Editor's note: I tried the command-line instructions, and got the game running, but couldn't figure out the "window to front" problem. So then I followed the Inside Mac Games forum link, which leads to a pre-made application package with instructions. This was much easier, although you should be cautioned this is beta software! It crashed my Finder bad - so badly that SSH died, command option escape failed, and basically, the reset button was the only way out. It does look like it could be fun, but I think I'll wait for a few more updates before trying again!]
