I got ahold of an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card out of a retired WinNT server and decided to give it a try in my G4 500. I attached an 18 GB 10000 RPM ultra SCSI HD to it and booted into OS 10.1.5 to see what I could see. Without any drivers, the drive showed up, I reformatted it, and now I'm going to clone my OS X installation onto it and test the performance.

Read/write performance to the drive is extremely fast so far. I don't know what the price difference is between the card for Mac and PC, but normally the difference is significant.

I tested to see if the card was available in OS 9.2.2, but it does not show up. It looks like I'll have to attach the drive to my 2940 card to clone the OS X partition to the drive and then change it over to the 29160 card to boot into the newly created copy.

I tried to copy my OS X partition to the SCSI HD in OS 10.1.5 with Carbon Copy Cloner 1.2, but it returns an error "unable to copy Applications, command not found" or something of that nature.
