Last night I upgraded X to 10.1.5, downloaded the latest drivers from ZiO, and it all worked tickety-boo! I don't know which of these actually fixed the problem, but do I care?

Back in January there was talk of the ZiO SmartMedia card readers not working with OS X 10.1.3 (see this hint and follow ups).

ZiO SM Reader problem
Since submitting the ZiO SmartMedia Reader hint, I've found that unplugging the reader *sometimes* badly crashes my iBook. Removing it with OS X asleep is more reliable.
I don't have the drivers installed..
I have a Zio Smart Media and the last driver I had in there was from a 10.0X version I believe and it's been working great since 10.1.X.
Some don't need drivers...
I have a MicroTech SnapShot Compact Flash card reader, purchased for $19.99 at CompUSA, and it's worked flawlessly in OS 9 and all versions of OS X without any drivers. Just plug it in a USB port, and it works. Put a CF card in, and iPhoto opens for importing (and it also shows up on the desktop as a mounted volume). Highly recommended.
Zio CF reader
A note for Zio Compact Flash readers plugged into dual processor G4s..

My smartmedia works fine on my dual 533 on my kebyboard port, fyi |
